Textiles for a Softer Summer Evening
Keep a light layer where it will actually be used, and let the rest of the seating remain uncomplicated.

A summer room can still need a blanket after sunset. Air conditioning, an open window, or a cooler evening may make a light layer welcome even when the daytime room feels warm. The useful question is where that layer belongs when someone reaches for it.
Choose the seat that is used most often in the evening. A throw kept there has a clearer purpose than several blankets arranged around the room for appearance. Fold it in a way that leaves the seat usable and does not trail into the route beside the chair.
The fabric's appearance can be lighter without being fragile. A simple woven surface or a soft narrow stripe may suit the room, but check the actual material and care information. A summery photograph does not tell you whether a textile is suitable for frequent use or for a particular outdoor setting.
If the layer will move between indoors and a porch, choose it for those actual conditions. Ordinary indoor fabric should not be assumed to tolerate weather just because it looks casual. Bring it back to an appropriate place after use rather than letting the styling decision become a maintenance problem.
Color can connect the evening layer to an existing cushion or picture. It does not need to match the sofa exactly. A slightly different pale tone may create enough separation to make the fold visible, while a strong contrast turns the textile into a more noticeable accent.
You might prefer to keep the blanket in a nearby basket or on an accessible shelf. That is equally reasonable if the seat feels better without it. A decorative throw does not need to remain on permanent display to contribute to the room's comfort.
Avoid adding extra cushions just to make the blanket arrangement look complete. The chair's shape may be more appealing when it is partly visible. One useful layer and a comfortable seat can be a complete composition.
At the end of the evening, notice where the textile naturally lands. If everyone puts it on the same chair arm or shelf, that may be the best home for it. Let the arrangement follow the household's habits instead of asking those habits to accommodate a photograph.
